Monarch Allure (Clean Laundry)
The monarch butterfly has many historic connotations; its mating/travel pattern is an incredible phenomena. In this instance I chose the monarch for its coloration and movement as this piece is a study in glass form. The shape is based on stretched women's underwear. Lace underwear and butterflies are a natural pairing because they are both delicate and beautiful but have the potential for flight. If you’ve ever seen clothes in a pile or underwear strewn on the floor you know what inspired this piece. It is made using enamel powder fused into the surface of orange iridescent glass.
