This series was inspired by a vacation I took to Ecuador. As we traveled down the coast, we spent a night in the small fishing town of Puerto Lopez. Early the next morning we went to the beach to see the days’ catch. It was alive with birds swooping low over pallets of panting fish and huge tuna being butchered on platforms in truck beds above throngs of restaurant owners waiting to have the first pick. I wanted to capture the movement and life of the scene by creating texture, focusing more on the color and form without too many defining lines. It is made using enamel powder fused into the surface of cobalt blue glass and formed into a ceramic mold.
